Mickey’s Halloween Parties

halloween mickey

Halloween is my absolute favorite holiday. I love the candy and I love dressing up, and Halloween also summons sweet childhood memories about trick-or-treating with my friends and having autumn sleepovers (my best friend growing up’s birthday was two days before Halloween).

So of course I’m excited to share what the Disney Parks’ plans are for the 2010 spooky holiday. Disney already excels in Halloween celebrations; their 1993 film “Nightmare Before Christmas” is one of my favorite to watch during this time of year (and then again at Christmas) and contains in my opinion one of the only good Halloween songs, “This Is Halloween.”

But back to the Disney Parks, the official blog of which has tons of details on Disney’s upcoming Halloween festivities. Some of the party has already started; to get visitors to the official blog in the Halloween spirit, all this month Disney has been running a “Who’s the Baddest of Them All?” villain contest. Users can send in questions for their favorite villains to answer during their campaign videos. Voting for the contest runs through October 28, with the winner presumably announced on the 31st.

Also happening all throughout October with its grand finale on Halloween night is Mickey’s Halloween Party, which has moved from California Adventure to Disneyland this year. On Tuesday and Friday nights all this month guests to the Anaheim resort can boogie to Halloween music and go trick-or-treating at Mickey’s Halloween Party. This being Disney, it’s no average trick-or-treating. Costumed kids follow the treat trails leading them to treat stations loaded both with candy and healthy snacks.

Those who want to dance will find two different parties going on: Club Skellington and Buzz Lightyear’s Intergalactic Space Jam. Fans of the ghoulish holiday should love to hang at the Halloweentown-themed club presided over by Jack the Pumpkin King. Those more interested by the futuristic can instead jam with the space hero himself, Buzz Lightyear, and his friends the Green Army Men.

Disney and Halloween enthusiasts over at Disney World for the holiday should line up to attend Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party in the Magic Kingdom. Running multiple nights a week into November, the party is appropriate for all ages.

Kids are encouraged to dress up in costumes and meet their favorite Disney characters wandering around the Magic Kingdom (and if you’re lucky, they’ll be handing out candy). The event also includes a fireworks show featuring the Disney villains, and Mickey’s “Boo-to-You” Halloween Parade kicked off by a ride from the Headless Horseman and featuring the denizens of the Haunted Mansion.

Those interested in attending either of the Halloween parties at the parks can purchase tickets online. Click here for details on Mickey’s Halloween Party, or here for more information on Disney World’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party.
