Howdy ya’ll! I’ve been very quiet this past week but thankfully this column hasn’t. I’d love to welcome Trudy Marshall-Bowler to the military family. There are many things people outside the military wonders about this whole other world and hopefully this column can show them what it is like from time to time in the military, not to mention giving advice to other military families going through the exact same thing.
A few things we deal with in the military are being separated. No, not as in divorce but by being miles apart because one or both must go overseas or to another state. How are these things dealt with? Am I alone? What should I send are just a few things military spouses wonder from time to time.
In the military we’ve all heard of PTSD, especially when it comes to the service member coming back from a war zone. However, not many hear about it being on the other foot. Can Military Families Suffer from PTSD? I, myself believe it is very possible. As Trudy states, your mind starts thinking about all the things your spouse has went through or could’ve went through. Even though they are safe now, it is finally okay to breakdown since someone is there to pick up the pieces besides yourself. To this day, I can’t watch war movies, it just hits home way too much.
Personalizing Your Care Packages– Trudy discusses ways she personalized her care packages to her husband. Believe it or not your spouse does save all the crazy items you send them. That is unless they are told to get rid of them before moving on. However, chances are even if they must burn them somehow something comes back home. Don’t tell me a marine isn’t sentimental.
One big issue that the military deals with, especially at war time is Families And Survivor’s Guilt. That’s right, while we may be relieved it wasn’t us or ours, we still deal with the guilt of it. But it is the Marine that deals with it the most, especially if it happened to someone he worked with.
Let’s not forget to thank our Lisa Pietsch for her entry on The military Commissary. Learn everything there is to know about the commissary, from sales to coupons. Find out exactly why all the military spouses love to shop here instead of out in town.
