Cat’s and dogs have always been known as adversaries. Usually when both a cat and a dog are characters in the same movie they generally fight with one another and are on opposing sides, with either the cat or the dog eventually winning out over the other.
In the movie “Milo and Otis” that is not the case. Milo and Otis charts the story of a cat and go who are actually friends. Milo the cat and Otis the dog grew up together on the same farm. When the two are separated they begin a search for each other through snow and mountains in order to be reunited.
This movie is a great story of friendship, and is done without having “talking animals” the animals are all just as they are with symphony done background pieces. Dudley Moore narrates. Milo and Otis is not like other children’s movies you’ve watched in the past by any stretch of the imagination.
The director of this film supposedly raised all of the animals in it together so they are all very comfortable with each other. At one point in the movie Otis, who is a pug, is carried on the back of a turtle which is amazing to watch.
That said this may be one to preview before you watch it with your youngster. There is a scene where Milo is attacked by seagulls, and another where Milo falls from a cliff into the ocean. The animal lovers who would enjoy watching this movie may be disturbed by some of the scenes despite the fact that “no animals were harmed in the making of this movie”.
This is one of the best real life animals movies ever made in my opinion, just for the true animal interaction you get to see on screen.
Milo and Otis is rated G and runs an hour and a half.
