Miracle Subway Romance Ends

If you have ever heard the James Blunt song, “You’re Beautiful,” you probably know the lyrics:

I saw an angel.

Of that I’m sure.
She smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man.
But I won’t lose no sleep on that,
‘Cause I’ve got a plan.

One guy took those lyrics to heart (well, all except the “with another man” part). Patrick Moberg was on the New York subway when he saw a woman in the crowd that he just couldn’t forget. However, before he could reach her, he lost her in the wave of passengers.

Fortunately, Patrick is a web designer and decided to take his search for this perfect woman global. He designed the website http://www.nygirlofmydreams.com with a sketch of her in hopes of locating her.

Now you know that New York City is a big place – about 8 million people. However, it only took Patrick 48 hours to track down this mystery woman as sympathetic New Yorkers began emailing and phoning in tips.

Her name was Camille Hayton and she hails from Melbourne, Australia. Working as an intern at Blackbook, she, like Patrick, lived in Brooklyn. When her friend spotted the sketch online, he contacted Patrick.

The couple took their romance to the media on both television and in press, but eventually Patrick wanted to take the romance out of the public eye. Camille has now told Australia’s The Sunday Telegraph that the relationship is over. “I say we dated for a while, but now we’re just friends. It’s really nice that people embraced the story. It is part of my life now.”

Camille still gets recognized weekly as “that woman.” So what happened to the relationship? She thinks the intensity of the situation bonded the two, but that intensity might have initially been mistaken for romance. She did say she wanted to give it a try so she wouldn’t later wonder “what if?”

Patrick won’t make a comment on the relationship, telling Reuters that “we’ve decided not to do any more press.”
