Mission Possible: A Reason for Hope

I am actually a very optimistic person. The glass is always half full. . .unless it’s truly almost empty and even then I would find the positive in the situation. It’s just my personality. But I recognize on the road to weight loss that there are many of us who go along and get discouraged at the slightest set back.

I wrote last week about how I had been really bad about eating junk food. I was tired, I was super busy last week and I didn’t prepare ahead of time what I was going to eat so I ate whatever was convenient. So my reason for hope this morning? I still lost one pound.

I’m sure someone’s thinking. . .one pound? That’s all? What’s the big deal about one pound? Truth be told it is not a big deal in and of itself. I still have about 54 pounds left to go. That one little pound didn’t change my BMI so really there hasn’t been effective change yet.

But I look at it like this. . .

I’ve definitely been moving more since I started Mission Possible. Even on the days where I ate too much junk food, I had taken about a 5 mile walk throughout the Botanical Gardens. While I’ve eaten way too much junk food, I’ve also been relatively conscientious about eating well when I’m home.

The point is that one pound represents ‘barely trying’. ‘Barely trying’ or being sort of conscientious has yielded one pound of weight loss. To me, this is a motivating factor. If barely trying gets me one pound. . .what happens when I snack on fruits and veggies and increase my exercise time even more? How many pounds might I lose when I really try?

It’s important to celebrate small achievements on the road to weight loss. It’s important to see small steps as achievements and not just one little dent in your entire goal. By breaking your goal into smaller, more attainable parts, you can celebrate each and every time you achieve something.

By the way on a side note, since I’ve started moving, I’ve increased my workout time by a few minutes and added weights. Small steps makes it easier.
