Coffee is something that I consider a luxury, since it can be rather pricey. It is one luxury that I indulge in, even when prices are up. Sometimes, you just have to splurge! Sure, I try to buy it on sale, and I’ll even buy a cheaper brand that I don’t like as well in order to save money when prices really get up there. I’ll even cut back from a full pot each day to half a pot, but I just won’t do without my java.
Another great way to save money when it comes to coffee is to avoid wasting this precious liquid. Sometimes, I have to go out and don’t have a chance to finish it all, so I take a cup with me. Sometimes, I don’t even have time to get a cup ready for the ride. Reheated coffee isn’t my favorite, but I have been known to nuke a cup on occasion rather than pouring it down the drain. Recently, I discovered that leftover coffee can also be used for cooking, in gravies and sauces, or it can be made into delicious iced coffee.
With the weather growing warmer, I am starting to enjoy iced coffee so much that I purposely try to save a cup some days so I can make a treat out of it later. It just takes a little leftover coffee, a few ice cubes, sugar if desired, and a splash of milk. Yum!
I also have several small packets of flavored coffees that I’ve received as gifts and I like to mix a bit of flavored coffee with regular coffee. It creates a more subtle flavor, which I prefer, and it also makes the expensive specialty coffees stretch further.
Are you a coffee drinker too? I’d love to hear your ideas!
