Good news for the Colorado teen who lost her leg in a prom night limousine accident nearly six weeks ago. Her family will be getting the financial help they so desperately need.
You’ll remember that last week I blogged about Molly Bloom (the victim of that tragic prom night disaster). According to police reports, Bloom was leaving her senior prom when her limo driver began moving the vehicle before she was completely inside. The teen fell to the ground and was run over by the Hummer’s rear tire and dragged about 38 feet, police said. Bloom’s condition was so critical that doctors had to amputate her leg and part of her pelvis.
Following the accident Bloom’s friends organized “Mollypalooza,” a charity event designed to help the Bloom family with medical expenses. The highlight of the event (which was held on Tuesday) was an auction that featured a date with Esquire’s “Sexiest Woman Alive” and “7th Heaven” star Jessica Biel (the popular actress is a Boulder native and her parents had heard about the Bloom’s tragedy raised).
Denver television stations are now reporting that the winning bid came in from a man only identified as “John” who forked over $30,000 to go on a lunch date with the actress. In all the event raised $38,000 to be presented to the teen who is still undergoing rehabilitation at a Denver hospital. Prior to the event, Jessica’s father, Jon Biel told local television reporters that his daughter “has this opportunity to create a buzz that would provide some support and she’s more than happy to do that.” He also said it was Jessica’s idea to hold the auction for a lunch date.
Biel who is on location filming the movie “Next,” wasn’t at Tuesday’s fundraiser. However, according to event organizers “John” will go on his lunch date with Biel on August 18 when she is in town to receive a humanitarian award.
