Mommycast is a podcast for mothers made by two mothers from northern Virginia, Paige and Gretchen. Paige has five children, Gretchen has two. This isn’t a new podcast, they’ve has been around awhile. They are currently on the two hundred and fifty second episode. Their motto is “Holding the World Together, One Child at a Time”.
The podcasts vary in length. Most are around twenty minutes or less. The hosts are very casual; it almost feels like eavesdropping on someone’s conversation instead of news show. But even though the show has a casual feel, the show topics aren’t at all casual. And the show is very professionally done.
Paige and Gretchen talk about everything. Some of their most recent topics have been about “smart bras” that can detect breast cancer, the virtual walk for breast cancer, about a middle school that is dispensing birth control, the problems resulting from prematurity, how to prevent pre-term labor, troubleshooting teen behavior, and the mortality of aging parents. Some of the shows are poignant and funny like the one on the things no one tells you about being a mom. Others are about everyday things like back to school night, child psychology, beauty myths, internet safety, and how to be a good chaperone.
Page and Gretchen also share many personal stories from their own families. I do wonder how their children feel about being the subject of so many internet podcasts. They don’t mention names, but they even talk about their children’s’ teachers. Like I said, it does feel a little like eavesdropping.
Every podcast includes a couple of songs. It’s fun to hear new music. And I love to hear other mothers discussing news items and those little things that make up our every days.
Archives of their many shows are available on their website. Have fun listening.
