Moms Helping Moms

I am so impressed with the generosity of complete strangers in one woman’s life today. As single mothers we can definitely empathize with others who are struggling to support their children. Whether you are in the midst of your own battle or have since recovered and gotten back on your feet, you can feel for the other women out there that are struggling to provide the necessities for their children. You know how hard it is to admit that you need help, and actually asking for it is even harder, but when the circumstances are dire enough, you are left with no choice.

One such woman in our community was facing just that. A single mother of six, with nothing more than a mattress on the floor for them to sleep on, she knew she needed help. She reached out to the community asking that if there was anything they were planning to donate to a local thrift store if she could possibly have it instead. When other women in the community heard of her situation they rushed in to help. Within a few days several truck loads full of furniture, clothes, shoes, toys, and more were brought to this family in need. When the items arrived the two year old was much more excited about the new toddler bed than he was about any of the toys. All this because a group of women, who knew what it was like to suffer, reached out to help another mom in need.

As single parents, we all have struggled at one point or another. Look for ways that you can help other women in your community. There are so many opportunities for us to give back and lighten another mother’s load. As a single mom, there were so many people who reached out to help me get back on my feet. Sometimes, all it takes is one person to make a difference in the lives of others. It’s time to pay it forward, because we’ve been there. We know what it’s like to have to struggle, if we can make it easier for even just one other mother out there, then we will have made the world a little brighter.
