Photography Challenges are designed to get you motivated. To get you to think outside the box. These photo challenges have gotten me motivated to look around me and capture much more with my camera than I did before. Last week’s challenge (the great outdoors) was loads of fun, since the weather is so much nicer and cooler we have been spending tons of time outside.
Each Monday, I post a challenge that you can choose to do, or you can choose not to do. That is completely up to you. My hope is that when you do the photo challenges, it is getting you to think outside the box, and obviously to take more photographs.
The purpose of the challenges are to get you to play around with your camera, get to know its features, its capabilities, just get to know it better. I want you to try out new angles, lighting techniques and more. I also want you to photograph things you might not have otherwise though of and have beautiful pictures in the process. How can you beat that?
This week’s photo challenge:
Today’s challenge is probably not for the squeamish. Insects, spiders and any other little bug you would like to grab a snapshot of. Perhaps you have an abundance of lady bugs or caterpillars, maybe you have butterfly bushes that attract all kinds of beauty. Play around with your camera and its settings to get the best close up snapshot of the bugs in your yard.
Here are a few examples I captured over the past week to prepare for this challenge. We have been spending a bit of time taking care of caterpillars and chrysalises, and have had two butterflies emerge this week. One was a Monarch which I have not yet photographed, and one was this beautiful butterfly. You can capture whatever you want, these are just to help you get ideas. Think spiders on webs, roly poly’s (pill bugs) your child is playing with, ants, grasshoppers, whatever you want to try for.
This is the butterfly my son saw through its entire change. A beautiful result of hard work on both parts.
This is the Monarch as his wings were still drying. Sadly, we did not capture a good photograph of his chrysalis which was one of the most beautiful things I’d ever seen in person.
This hairy, fuzzy and QUITE spooky guy was on my car a few nights ago. He had spun quite the impressive web but it was impossible to get a shot of that. Instead, we popped him into a glass jar and I aimed inside the jar for the picture. Not bad.
So interesting snapshots did you capture this week? You can add your photograph(s) to the gallery if you would like, and then please let me know in the comments field.
If there is something you would like to see, or something that you are wanting to learn more about or see more examples of, that I might be able to incorporate into a challenge, let me know.
