Gentlemen, please pay attention. As you well know, there are frequent opportunities throughout the year for you to give your wife gifts. Gifts are considered tokens of affection and they demonstrate your thoughtfulness as well as what you think and feel for your wife. With that in mind, here is a list of gifts that you should never give your wife:
- No Christmas Sweaters – Seriously, these are cute gifts from parents or grandparents, but never from a spouse
- No Huge, Oversized Coats – Despite the fact that wherever you live might be cold, wives generally prefer looks to functionality – this is a gift that you don’t give unless she has specifically indicated that she wants it
- No Tiny Component Gifts that you hide in jewelry boxes – Rule #1 never make your wife think she is getting jewelry only to not deliver
- No Exercise Equipment – This is a catch-22, you should never give your wife exercise equipment unless she’s expressly said she wants it
- No sampler packs – these are gifts that neighbors and co-workers give as token gifts
- No Household Appliances – Sorry, the new vacuum and refrigerator do not say, I love you – a new dishwasher might if you do not have one, but it’s still not appropriate for a gift of love
- No toilet seats or other household décor items – I know of couple of guys who did this, thinking it was a great idea because it was pretty and matched the new décor of the bathroom
- No sexy lingerie – Despite all popular belief, women are not thrilled by a sexy teddy or negligee, in fact – they are more likely to embarrass the wife especially if opened in front of other family members
- No cheap perfume – there are a few inexpensive types of perfume that your wife may like, but let her identify the scents she cares for or purchase a scent that you find very attractive – though you should never tell your wife you got her a perfume that you liked on another woman. Remember, body chemistry has a great deal to do with how a perfume smells on an individual
What other gifts would you advise against?
