Money Inspirations

When it comes to money management, who inspires you to plan and to save? There are so many financial gurus out there in the real world and on the web. Who do you go to for inspiration? Here are a few of my favorites for your own Christmas gift list.

How about the illustrious Amy Dacyzyn of the Tightwad Gazette? I remember looking through a number of well-thumbed copies at the library many years ago, and they got me started in the world of frugal living.

Is it Your Money or Your Life? This book by Joe Dominguez and Vicki Robin encourages people to take a close look at how they spend their life energy. This book is a bestseller and you’ve likely heard of it. Even if you don’t get through the entire thing, the very close look at your budget and the calculation of your real hourly wage are well worth it.

Cutting back and getting practical? How about Dave Ramsey’s web site and books like The Total Money Makeover? He’ll teach you how to acquire an emergency fund and control your debt, then gradually build your wealth.

Is it The Millionaire Next Door? Thomas Stanley and William Danko’s book This book will inspire you to become a millionaire. Don’t laugh, now. It takes a close look at who America’s millionaires actually are, and they aren’t the people in the expensive suits. They are people who live below their means.

How about The Wealthy Barber? David Chilton’s book is similar to The Millionaire Next door in some ways, in that it shows that the so-called average person can become rich. It delves into the magic of compound interest and is a great book to share with children and teens, since it focuses on investing early and often.
