Moose is Full of Mischief!

I guess even dogs can get a wild hair now and then. My dog Moose (a German shepherd mix) has been full of mischief lately!

It started a few nights ago. The dogs and I went to bed around ten (our usual bedtime, give or take an hour or so) after one last quick trip outside for piddles. Around 1:30 in the morning, something drags me out of slumber. Fwee! Fwee! This is the noise Moose makes when he wants attention; it’s a pathetic cross between a whine and a whistle.

Moose only has the one “distress” noise, so I never know if it’s an emergency or a minor crisis when he starts nose whistling. First, I tried to get him up onto the bed — thinking Lally had been growling at him. That didn’t work. Once in a while, if Moose wakes me up, it’s because he is having a potty emergency. So I dragged myself out of bed.

I fumbled my way to the closet and pulled out my coat, then went to the door where the leashes are. I expected to see Moose waiting right there… but instead, he had sprinted off to try to gobble Lally’s uneaten dinner. He didn’t need a walk… he wanted a snack!

We went out anyway, and when we came back in, he tried again to grab the leftovers in Lally’s bowl. I finally put it up on the counter before going back to bed. He’s never gotten me up for food before.

But that wild hair must be in his belly. Last night I walked into the kitchen to find cans from the recycling bin all over the floor. Lally had been in the office with me the whole time, so Moose had to be the culprit! His snack selection? Empty cans of beans — I’d made vegetarian chili that afternoon.

I can only imagine what food-oriented antics Moose is going to get up to next!
