More Alternative Airports

Looking to save money on a plane ticket to your holiday travel destination? The key to saving cash is to be FLEXIBLE. In my previous blog I shared a travel tip about utilizing alternative airports. I have found that I can save a bundle of cash by flying in to or out of alternate airports. (Meaning non-major metropolitan airports such as Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport or New York’s JFK.)

To make things easier for you I have listed several alternative airports in and around major U.S. cities. Here now is the continuation of my previous list.

BOSTON

Main airport: Logan International Airport.

Alternative Airports: Manchester-Boston Regional Airport in Manchester, New Hampshire is located about 60 miles from central Boston, but it offers free shuttles to the city every 3 hours or so. The regional airport services Southwest flights and a handful of other carriers. T.F. Green Airport located in Warwick, Rhode Island is also a viable alternative airport. It is situated about 60 miles from downtown central Boston. It also services Southwest flights. Another option is Pease International Airport in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. It is located about 70 miles from Boston. It services Skybus and a few other low fare airlines.

SAN FRANSISCO

Main Airport: San Francisco International Airport

Alternative Airports: Oakland International Airport. It is a preferred airport for those who live in Marin County. San Jose International Airport is also a viable option that is serviced by several major carriers. You could also consider flying to Charles Schultz Sonoma County Airport located in Santa Rosa, California. A few low fare airlines offer service there from Seattle and Los Angeles.

PHONEIX

Main Airport: Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport

Alternative Airports: Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport located in Mesa, Arizona. It was formerly Williams Air Force Base, but now a handful of carriers are offering service to and from the airport.
