More Behind the Spelling Home Sale

I thought maybe the 56,500 square foot home was just too much for Candy Spelling, but apparently there is a little more behind her decision to put The Manor up for sale.

Candy told PEOPLE magazine that she would have never put The Manor up for sale if she thought she would ever reconcile with daughter Tori and her family. She said, “If I had any hope that I would have a relationship with my grandchildren I would never sell this house.”

Candy, who will be moving to a $47 million dollar condo with the same square footage as her current attic when The Manor sells (don’t feel bad for her, it is still 17,000 square feet!), told PEOPLE that she used to see grandson Liam, but doesn’t see him, Tori, or Dean anymore and has never seen her new granddaughter Stella.

It seems that Aaron Spelling, who died in 2007, was the glue that held the family together and after his death, things have been difficult. Candy said, “I’ve tried to talk with her [Tori], but that doesn’t work.” She claims that her daughter is angry, but she doesn’t know why. Hum, might be because her father was worth $500 million and left her less than $1 million in his will.

Candy is still holding out hope of seeing her grandchildren one day. She has a playroom in her new condo and says that if nothing else, one day the grandchildren will know who she is because of the trust funds she has set up for them.

Probably not helping the situation any, Candy plans to release a candid memoir on March 31 titled Stories from Candyland. In an excerpt from her book, I read that Candy is trying to figure out what to do with the stuff in the attic. “There are 128 … 143 … 151 … 164 …180 boxes of Christmas decorations.” And I thought I had a lot of Christmas decorations!

I didn’t notice any family dirt in the excerpt, but Candy did fondly mention items from her children’s childhoods in the attic, including mother-daughter taffeta dresses she and Tori wore. Kind of makes me wonder where it all went wrong.
