Never underestimate the power of a good drink. No, I’m not talking alcoholic drinks here. I’m talking about ciders and punches that leave guests satisfied and happy. Here are some more drinks, certain to cool (or warm) everyone’s thirst this holiday season.
Hot Mulled Cider
Who doesn’t love this delicious drink on a chilly day? The best part is you can make it in the morning and enjoy it all day long. The aroma will filter through your house and fragrance your noses long before it hits your lips.
½ cup brown sugar
2 qt. apple cider
1 tsp. whole allspice
1 ½ tsp. whole cloves
2 pieces stick cinnamon
Orange slices
Put all ingredients into a crock pot. If desired, tie the whole spices in cheesecloth or put tem in a tea strainer. (If you add the spices loose, be sure to strain them before serving) Cover and set on low heat for 2 to 8 hours. Serve warm from the crock pot with a ladle. This can also be made on the stovetop and kept on very low heat all day.
Strawberry lemonade-a delightful twist on the classic
The club soda in this recipe makes for a delightful twist.
1 qt. fresh strawberries, cleaned and hulled
3 cups cold water
¾ cup lemon juice
1 cup sugar
2 cups club soda
In a blender, blend the strawberries well. Add the strawberries, water, juice, and sugar to a pitcher. Stir until combined, then add the club soda. Serve over ice.
Sparkling Harvest Cider
2 qts. Apple cider
1 cup lemon juice (fresh or from concentrate is fine)
½ cup sugar
1 (32 ounce) bottle ginger ale
In a punch bowl or pitcher, combine the cider, lemon juice, and sugar. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Just before serving add the ginger ale.
