It’s hard to know what’s worse these days the sky-high price of airline tickets and insane luggage fees or the record-breaking cost of gasoline. Either way any help the travel industry is willing to provide families so they can take a last-minute summer vacation is greatly appreciated (by mine anyway).
A number of hotels across the country are offering package deals to aid cash strapped families the chance to travel during these tough economic times.
Take a look:
CHICAGO
The Windy City is looking even more inviting than usual with the “Escape! Family Getaway” package being offered by the Renaissance Chicago O’Hare Suites Hotel. For just $109 per room per night you will receive accommodations in a suite with separate living and sleeping areas (either one king bed or two double beds), plus a mini fridge, a fully cooked medium pizza, an in-room movie, and soda. In addition, kids under 12 eat breakfast for free, and the whole family can see the “dive-in” movies shown on Friday and Saturday nights at the indoor heated pool. The package also covers shuttle service to O’Hare International Airport in case you are flying in to take advantage of the deal.
OMAHA
I call it the “Splash and Steal,” but the folks at CoCo Keys Water Resort in Omaha, Nebraska have dubbed it the “Staycation” package. Whatever you call it you are getting a great deal on a weekend of family fun. The $199 package deal includes one night’s hotel accommodations; two days of swimming; pizza combo meals for four people; and two CoCo’s Kids Activity Packs. You’ll also get four one-day passes for a return trip in September. This particular package is available through August 31, 2008. Similar offers are also available at other CoCo Key Water Resort locations in Illinois and Kansas.
DENVER
If you have kids who love animals then taking advantage of this next deal is a no-brainer. The “Kids in the City” package being offered by the JW Marriott Denver at Cherry Creek includes four tickets to the Denver Zoo; milk and cookies at turndown; a stuffed teddy bear plus child-sized robes and slippers for use during your stay; family-friendly DVDs, books, and board games and the Passport to Savings card, which provides discounts at local toy stores for just $235 per room per night, which represents savings of $100.
