Craft supplies can really add up. Here are even more ways to save without cramping your crafting style.
Yesterday, I covered two big ways of saving money on craft supplies, such as how to find them at the thrift store and the idea of making your own rubber stamps. Now, here are some more ways to get some frugal crafting supplies.
Shop at the home improvement store instead of the craft store. You can find all sorts of things for crafting there; it is not just for tools. Beside the obvious supplies, such as exacto knives, you’ll find inexpensive crafting paint (click here to read a complete article about finding cheap or free paint), small brushes, wood shapes, letters and numbers, glue, wire for jewlery-making and more, without the huge craft store mark up. There is a wealth of things in a home improvement store that can be used for crafting. If you look around, you should be able to easily get your creative juices flowing!
In that same line of thinking, look for scrapbook and card making supplies such as gel pens, stickers and bulk card stock in an office supply store or dollar store. Regular prices and sales are always much better in these types of stores. Plus you can pick up some spray paint, a must have in taking advantage of clearance craft items, such as baskets or flowers, that might not be on sale in the ideal color for your project.
Consider holding a craft swap with your friends or community. Everyone can get together and swap supplies they no longer use. That grapevine wreath you have done nothing with might be just what someone is looking for. Someone else just might have an array of scrap booking supplies from an overenthusiastic buy. Alternatively, find a bunch of people who share the same crafting passions as you do. You can all get together for crafting sessions, sharing each others supplies. This works especially well for knitters, scrap bookers, and jewelry makers. If you take advantage of this idea, you can eliminate your need to purchase certain tools and supplies someone else might already have.
