Again we look to the dollar store for inspiration and design elements to decorate our home in a more frugal way. Just because you live a lifestyle where money in the bank is better than money spent, does not mean you cannot fund a home decorating project for a little less. Have some fun with dollar store items and even just a touch might add that special something that makes the room better for you.
There are dozens of items that you can either purchase as is, or alter and make more decorative once you bring it home. Items such as picture frames, wall art, baskets and even artificial flowers can be found at the dollar store. Sometimes you will find something, that if you didn’t know it was purchased at the dollar store, nobody would question how authentic it is.
There are so many items at the dollar store and more than likely you have forgotten that they can be found there. Next time you have some free time, go to the dollar store and begin walking the aisles. Walk slowly, yet deliberately. You are on a mission, you are looking for items that can decorate the rooms in your home. You will find them.
Dollar stores are usually broken up somewhat by section. There are fun and even decorative items for the kitchen, the bath, the bedroom, children’s rooms, etc. Some things are sold with a decorative purpose in mind. However, look beyond the obvious with others. Would a cheap plain metal bowl look pretty on a table filled with seasonal items? Fruit in the summer, leaves, acorns and pine cones in the winter?
How about the plain white candle set you found? Can you find a holder or a bowl that you could group together a bunch of them in? You could make a beautiful centerpiece for about $3.00 from the dollar store and it would look like you spent a lot more.
