More Frugal Decorating With Flea Market Finds

Lately I have been obsessed with decorating my home. Partly because we are putting it on the market, and partly because I know we will be getting a new home and I am excited to get moving on the design and decorations. I began the series about Frugal Decorating with Decorating at the Dollar Store, which wound up as a two part article. I then began this one with Frugal Decorating at the Flea Market. Here’s more great money saving, cheap ideas to decorate your home while shopping at the local flea market.

Unique and Beautiful Vases

Browse any flea market and someone is selling kitchenware. Grab a couple of mugs and you can turn them into really pretty vases. Turn one upside down and then hot glue the other one to the top and put pretty silk flowers or cut flowers from your garden inside. You can also use watering cans either as is, or painted. We found a really odd looking toilet brush holder and thought it was kinda funky. We cleaned it out well and turned it into a vase too.

Trellis

Finding a trellis or pieces of a trellis is not that hard. You might not immediately see them at the flea market, but you might be able to find them at a yard sale or even your local nursery will have the broken ones lying to the side waiting for the trash and they would probably be happy to give them to you. Clean them up really well. Paint and then varnish. Hang on the wall of a bedroom, living room or wherever and attach photographs to it with thumbtacks. It is a great picture frame and depending on the size, can hold hundreds of different photographs and looks really cool.

Scarves

Use long silk scarves as table runners. You can find all sorts of colors and patterns and if you are feeling particularly crafty, you can sew beads or accessorize them in other ways to make them really stand out. In addition, they can be used to dress up other items around the home like a vase, a potted plant a chair or lampshade. Just tie them around and let hang or fasten into a bow.

Frames

Old large frames can be painted and used as trays. You can place them on a nightstand or an end table and add some candles or something. OR you can actually utilize them as a tray and carry drinks to your guests, etc. You can place papers, pictures, pressed flowers or whatever you want beneath the glass in the frame.
