Pets are our friends, our companions and our family. There are very few short cuts that can be taken in pet ownership without jeopardizing their health and well-being. But there are a few things you can do that promote good health and can save money by just changing the way you do a few things.
In a previous article: Learn To Be Frugal With Pet Health Care, I mentioned ways to save on your Veterinarian and visits, along with Vaccinations. These are things that you must do to maintain a pets health, but there are still other ways to save money on pet ownership, but keep them healthy and happy much longer.
Medicines
Every pet at some point in the lives needs a medicine or antibiotic for something. It really doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to order a low cost medicine your pet needs immediately from an online resource or a catalog because they need the medication now, and that would take at least three days. To rush it would cost a lot completely outweighing the savings from the low cost place. However, if it is a monthly medicine that they are needing this is a much more cost-effective way to go. Google search on low cost pet medications and you’ll come up with enough choices to save you some serious money. Just be sure to compare prices and think about reputation!
Heart Worm and Fleas
I recently learned of a pretty nifty trick that many pet owners are just discovering. Contact your local Veterinarian and ask if they have any outdated flea medications, heart worm medications and other monthly medications. These pet medications are good for six months past their expiration dates, but are unable to be sold after that expiration date. So many veterinarians donate these products to local rescue groups for the dogs that they are caring for. If you ask, you might be able to grab a box every few months to help out with costs and to keep your pet healthy.
