Don’t you love tips that are easy to follow and can save money? I do, especially when they relate to my kitchen, one of the rooms that I spend a lot of time in. I love tips that help me avoid purchasing small appliances or gadgets, or ones that same me time and therefore money.
Here are some more of my favorite frugal kitchen tips.
Instead of buying expensive calcium supplements, why not sneak calcium into your food for a lot less money? Powdered or dry milk is an excellent source of extra calcium, and used in cooking, is pretty much invisible to the pallet. So, even if you can’t stomach the thought of drinking reconstituted powdered milk, you can still use it and save. Add powered milk to meat balls, meat loaf, muffins, cookies, cream soups and more.
I have been complaining about not having an electric griddle for ages. It seems that every time I make pancakes it takes me forever. Inevitably, my family is finished with breakfast before I even get started. But an electric griddle is an extra expense and requires storage. Instead, I have solved the problem by baking the pancakes. Just pour the batter into a jellyroll pan that has been lightly oiled (or sprayed with non-stick spray). Bake the pancakes in a 400 degree oven for 20 minutes. When they are done, you can cut them into squares or use cookie cutters to make fun shapes.
Don’t use up your baking soda for the refrigerator. Instead, take advantage of something you were going to throw away: used coffee grounds. Just take the entire filter with the coffee grounds in it, place it in an open container, and then place the container in the fridge. It will absorb even the worst odors. Replace the grounds when they dry out.
