More Holiday Gift Ideas For Teachers

With just a few days left before Christmas I know that some of you are still doing your shopping. In a previous blog I wrote about gifts ideas for teachers. I was able to get the gifts I needed for Tyler’s teacher, coach and the foster grandmother that works in his class, so thank God I’m all finished with them. If you are still looking for a gift idea I read an article in the newspaper and although the ideas are not specifically for teachers, some of the ideas would definitely work.

The one idea that I liked is to pay for a class such as yoga, an art class, etc. If the classes are expensive, perhaps a group of parents could get together and share the cost. I realize it might be too late this year, but definitely something to think about for the future.

If you want to give an individual gift, check out the local colleges, they sometimes offer classes that are relatively inexpensive. An even better idea is to check with your local Department of Parks and Recreation. I picked up a winter schedule at the library and was surprised by the offerings inside. And the cost of most of the classes was surprisingly low.

If you know what type of things your child’s teacher is interested in sign them up for a class. Or even better, sign them up for something they probably would never think of signing up for themselves but one they might emjoy.

Here’s a sampling of what I found been offered here in Mobile:

Beginning Drawing- 8 classes- $48
Tennis Court Time- $1.50 per hour
Fun with Your Computer- 4 weeks- $40
Spanish I- 6 weeks- $36
Beginning Tai Chi-9 weeks-$27
Yoga- 4 weeks-$12
Beginning Sign Language-4 weeks-$24

The schedule goes on for 30 pages and includes classes in line dancing, aerobics, real estate, tax preparation and more. If your town offers similar programs you should be able to find something that not only teachers but other adults and kids in your life would like to take. And while you’re at it, don’t forget to sign yourself up for a class or two.
