I just want to finish my “In Memoriam 2011” series, but celebs just won’t stop announcing splits.
First up is Debra Messing. The “Will and Grace” actress announced she split from hubby of 10 years, actor-television producer Daniel Zelman. The two met while students at New York University and dated for years before making it official in 2000. They have a seven-year-old son, Roman.
But, this breakup will be a bit like a Demi/Bruce one in that it seems to be terribly amicable. So much so that the couple have been separated for most of 2011, but still lived together. The couple showed up at Bette Midler’s Halloween party and Messing seemed happy about the upcoming holidays, saying in an interview that the family loved to go skating, see plays, and go “stomping through Central Park.”
And to make matters worse (or better – depending on how you look at it), Messing seems to already be dating her new co-star. She and actor Will Chase are set to appear in the NBC series “Smash” in February, but rumors are that the two are already pretty cozy. Chase just separated from his wife, Broadway actress Stephanie Gibson.
Next up on the divorce Ferris wheel is singer Katy Perry and comedian Russell Brand. Apparently reports of people seeing the two without their wedding rings DID mean something as Brand filed for divorce this week. Despite that, he said in a statement that “I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.” The couple wed in India fourteen months ago.
If you think I am ending the year on a sour note with blogs about all these splits, the true romantics may take heart in that one celebrity did get married today.
Olympian and reality star Johnny Weir wed his boyfriend Victor Voronov today. Weir was quick to point out that Voronov was not in the ice skating business with which he seems to have a love/hate relationship (Voronov is a lawyer). If you’ve seen Weir’s reality show “Be Good Johnny Weir,” you know he has a love for all things Russian, so here’s hoping Weir and Voronov have better relationship success than Messing and Perry.
