With the skyrocketing price of fuel and the dimwitted idea of charging to check in a single suitcase it’s no wonder why millions of families around the world have decided not to fly this summer.
I was one of the millions until… yesterday. That’s when I received an airfare alert from my favorite travel website and saw that incredible summer airfares really do exist. I listed some of the most outstanding ones in my previous blog and have included other spectacular summer savings that are too good to pass up below:
Costa Rica
Why hang out in your backyard this summer when you could surround yourself with majestic mountains, exotic flora and fauna, sunshine, rainforests, volcanoes, and fabulous beaches? Costa Rica offers it all AND you can now get there for less than it costs to fill up your SUV with unleaded fuel. American Airlines is selling fares to Costa Rica’s capital San Jose for as little as $69 one-way from Fort Lauderdale (travel is good through October 30, 2008). But you must by now because after June 15th the fare goes up to $300 round-trip—–which is still not bad.
Buffalo/Niagara
If you have never seen Niagara Falls in person now is your chance. (By the way, Buffalo is no bore either-—its local gardens and historic downtown area are must-see sites.) Right now JetBlue is offering fares of $79 each way from New York’s JFK to Buffalo/ Niagara, with similar fares from Boston and connecting fares from other cities.
Denver
You can experience all the Mile High City has to offer this summer for a steal thanks to United Airlines. The carrier is offering round-trip deals from Chicago O’Hare for as little as $215 for July, mid-week travel. In August, American is doing United one better by offering $151 round-trip airfares, also mid-week, based on availability.
Seattle
If you are looking to escape the summer heat head to Seattle. The popular Washington State city does have sunshine during the summer months, but you won’t have to endure the oppressive temperatures that come with it. To get there on a dime consider flying Virgin America. Right now it is offering introductory fares — just $99 one-way from San Francisco and $154 one-way from Los Angeles, based on availability.
