Last week we looked at some inexpensive home decorating ideas. Here are some more.
Use your photographs as a decoration. One way is to make a collage of photos from your family’s life. I used to have one large wall in our family room dedicated to photos of our family. Eventually it spread to two walls. You could track our family, and the various homes we’d lived in and pets we’d had, through that wall. I bought simple inexpensive frames and then rather than only put half a dozen or so photos in the allotted spots. I took the sectioned bit out and instead covered the whole piece if the backing paper with photos overlapping and made it into a collage.
A friend had a wall collage with the photos just attached to the wall. Or you could paint a frame on the wall and put the photos inside it.
On a wall in our lounge room we have a wedding wall, which are photos of my parents wedding, our wedding and then our two children’s weddings. It makes a great conversation piece. People love looking at it. And it shows how important family is to us.
Another idea is to stretch three or four pretty fabric over boards and then hang them. You might decide to have then in similar colors but different patterns. Or you might paint several abstract designs on canvases in complimentary colors and then frame them.
Another decorating tip is to display any collections. Some people collect colored bottles. They can look effective when displayed against a window. Another person I know collect thimbles.
I collect owls and our lounge room has coffee tables and other little tables with owls all over them. Now they’re grown in number, I’m thinking I need to get Mick to build simple display shelves so all the owls can nest together. Or you might collect fans or old theater programs. Display them on a wall.
