More Kid-Friendly Vacation Destinations with Meaning

Easter is just two months away, which means many parents are already making plans for their children’s spring break from school. Do you have your family’s holiday trip finalized yet?

If you answered no, perhaps this blog can help. I’m continuing my series of blogs, which focus on kid-friendly vacation destinations across the United States that offer more than just a backdrop for a great family snapshots. Every family wants to have a relaxing enjoyable time while on a break, but vacations are also great opportunities to learn about new cultures and take part in hands-on history lessons, especially if you choose the right destination.

The following sites provide a place for children to learn a lesson or two on the road… and have fun while they’re at it.

BOSTON

Beantown’s Freedom Trail is a historic spot filled with interesting sights. From Bunker Hill to Paul Revere’s house, and other areas that were pivotal to the American Revolution. Your family can opt to walk the trail on your own for free or for less than 10 bucks per child you can book a tour of the grounds with a guide decked out in 18th-century garb.

WASHINGTON, D.C.

Lincoln Memorial. The city is teeming with inspiring sights including the Washington Monument, Arlington National Cemetery, and the Jefferson and Vietnam Veterans memorials. Still, the towering 19-foot marble statue of our 16th president is a can’t-miss stop while exploring this historic city.

VIRGINIA

Colonial Williamsburg. This popular Williamsburg, Virginia tourist attraction illustrates to your iPod-toting, video game-loving kids that at one point in history there was life before electricity. The 301-acre open-air museum features hundreds of restored, reconstructed, and historically furnished buildings. Hook up with one of the costumed guides who will share the stories of the men and women of the 18th-century city. I guarantee it will be a learning experience for the entire family.

Monticello. Thomas Jefferson’s famous estate, which he designed and tinkered with over the course of five decades, is located seven miles from the University of Virginia—-which he also founded—-and is a must-see spot for kids of all ages.
