More Laundry Tips

In my quest to simplify most household tasks I’ve gotten the laundry room organized and running smoothly. My last post was about sorting laundry and doing a load every day to cut down on the enormity of the task.

Today I have some tips and tricks I’ve collected that help make laundry even easier.

*Instead of sorting and mating socks, trying to figure out if those white socks are your husbands or your teenagers, give each person a mess delicates laundry bag. Collect the bags once a week, zip closed, toss in the washer and dryer and then return to their rightful owner.

*Have a shirt with a few small wrinkles? Instead of setting up the ironing board heat up your hair straightener. The flat iron works great on small areas and is quick as well.

*Every washed your daughter’s jeans with her lip gloss in the pocket? Try rubbing some chalk on the mark, if that doesn’t work dishwashing liquid seems to get out even old grease marks.

*Have trouble remembering what product to use on which stain? Make a chart, print it off, frame it and hang above the washer. No more running to the computer to Google stain removal.

*Lemon juice is a good, all natural bleaching product. Put lemon juice on the stain and place the item in the sun for a few hours. This works great on baby spit up stains.

*If you have hard water and your clothes don’t seem as bright and colorful as they use to, throw a couple pinches of salt in with the detergent. Your clothes will come out brighter than before.

*When someone gets a new button down shirt, dab some clear nail polish on the thread holding the buttons on. Do this every few months and the buttons will stay on longer.
