It has been more than a few weeks since my daughter’s sudden catapult into the mobile stage of babydom. By now she has more than mastered her crawling skills. What began as rocking propelled crawling and unsure balance, has evolved into frequent crawling marathons! She can and will crawl wherever, whenever she gets the notion. Before she had developed her crawling skills, she would roll and scooch her little self all over the house; even though it took her several minutes to get from one location to another. All that has changed! With her increased mobility, she is crawling directly towards her intended target and onto the next in a matter of seconds. No more tummy time for this baby, she has places to go! As her confidence in her ability to crawl grew, her bravery and daring nature started to blossom a little bit too. I often find her crawling around and behind furniture. She and her brother recently claimed the space under both the dining room table and the children’s farmhouse table as their clubhouses. I find the two of them playing under the table frequently throughout the day. Occasionally her little excursions will get her into sticky predicaments which are easily resolved by pulling out a chair or two. Yet her adventures continue! She has also started to seek out toys that have rolled under furniture that has less head clearance. She will crawl on her tummy right into very tight spaces to retrieve a toy. The first time I saw her crawl under the mobile kitchen island after a toy ball, I was a little surprised. Her brother was never so daring! If she sees something she wants whether it be under a bed or cedar chest or bookshelf, she is on her tummy crawling in after her prize.
