Paul loves taking the kids to the movies. It’s a daddy thing. He traipses off with one of them or all of them to see most of the latest good movies. With driving, that leaves me about four hours to take a nap, read a book, scrapbook, or soak in the tub. I love when they go to the movies!
We’re on a budget, and try to do it inexpensively. We have a credit card that issues rewards for gas purchases, and we turn those in to tickets and popcorn at a greatly reduced rate. If we have to pay, it’s a matinee with a military discount. Occasionally, the nearby military bases show movies that aren’t yet to video; usually they’re the same offering as Blockbuster. Best of all, though, is Movie Cash from Safeway. Safeway runs movie promotions three or four times a year. I got in on the Shrek 3 promotion a little while back. Those vouchers were only for Shrek 3, though. With Movie Cash, there’s an advertisement for a particular movie, but the voucher is good for any movie. They’ll pay up to $12.00 per voucher which means (here, at least) they can go at any time.
The current promotion is “Catch the Cool Wave” for the new movie, Surf’s Up. Buy ten participating dairy items and get two free vouchers. You can use coupons toward your purchases. Most of the items that qualify were not bargains. Cheese is 2/$5. I can do better than that usually. If you use margarine instead of butter (blecch, but I know some of you do!), some of the spreads are 3/$5. The least expensive way to work this, though, is Sunny Delight.
Sunny D has a whopping 5% juice. That’s 95% less than what we usually buy. Giving my kids, especially my ‘different’ one, sugar water isn’t at the top of my parenting tips list. I bought them for the movie tickets. 4/$5 which means 10/$12.50. All ten items for the cost of one of the two tickets. It’s a great deal. The kids are delighted twice over; once for the treat, and again at the prospect of another movie. This deal is good twice per household. Once before June 13th, and once after. So make plans in your budget for the ten dairy items and get to Safeway soon.
