Okay, now I’ve heard everything.
By now you know that American Airlines is charging passengers $15 to check in a single piece of luggage (and $25 for the second) on flights. And I’m sure you are well aware that most airlines are now charging more for extra legroom in their cabins and that the price of food and beverages is going up too. Well, now you’ll also have to dig deeper if you want to bring antlers on board Frontier Airlines.
Yes, you read right—antlers. As in antlers that are normally connected to an animal’s head.
Frontier Airlines (which, by the way, has declared bankruptcy) just announced that it plans to increase the fee it charges passengers for taking antlers on its planes to $100 from $75.
The Colorado-based carrier says it had no choice but to raise the fee as it struggles to counter the cost of record oil prices, which have roughly doubled in the past year.
“During hunting season, people do bring antlers back in cargo” a spokeswoman for Frontier told news reporters. “If you look at some of the other airlines, they also have an actual antlers fee, so it does happen.”
And the airline is not done yet. Frontier execs say in the weeks to come they also plan to charge a $25 fee for a second checked bag, cancel half-price infant seats and will no longer allow pets to travel in airplane cabins. In addition, the carrier plans to increase the fee assessed for children traveling alone to $50 from $40.
The airline is also trying to offset skyrocketing fuel prices by adding technology most passengers will never realize is being used. According to Frontier officials, the airline is taking measures to reduce aircraft fuel burn by adding new software that optimizes flight tracks based on air traffic and weather conditions. They also plan to install lighter leather seats, and use more fuel-efficient aircraft.
