More on Baby Announcements and Candy Bar Wrappers

Once you’ve decided to start a candy bar wrapper business, there are a few things you will need. Stock up on pink, blue and white paper, especially when it’s on sale. Some people will ask for a specific color paper while others will prefer white paper with colored writing and graphics. Try charging slightly more for the use of white paper with colored ink. Others may want their new baby’s photo included on the wrapper. If you have a scanner, this is easy, otherwise have them email you a photo to use.

Stock up on baby graphics and give your customers a choice. I’ve downloaded plenty of cute fonts, thick fonts work best, and these can easily be found free on the internet. I usually give a choice of two or three font styles. By keeping choices down to two or three you’ll make less work for yourself and improve the amount of money you earn per hour. If you offer too many choices, this can lead to hours of decision making. Also offer a small select choice of graphics and poems for the back of the bars.

I suggest having the baby’s name as the most prominent wording on the bar. Add a graphic on each end, such as a baby block, a duck or teddy bear, or the family’s favorite sport such as a soccer ball. In the top left corner I put the Net Weight of the baby in place of the candy bar Net Weight. Add the birth date to the candy bar and the front is complete. The back of the bar can be a fun place to put a poem such as “What little boys are made of” or others you can find online. Add a “Welcomed home by …” and add the grandparents, siblings, and even pets to this section. You’ll find that grandparents often reorder these bars if they’re mentioned on the announcement. They hand them out at work, to other family members or to their neighborhood friends.

I have never advertised these candy bar wrappers but started by giving that first box away. The orders just keep coming in. The candy bar wrapping business is fun and can be easy to expand upon and include wedding announcements, birthday give-aways and party favors. Some businesses will also give away printed candy bar wrappers as business cards, making this a great way to earn extra money at home.
