My husband gets it, but some of my friends just don’t understand that my Oscar obsession lasts days after the actual ceremony. It’s like I am back in junior high science class with a frog – I have to dissect every moment of the show to get my fix.
So, with that being said, here’s some more of the buzz about the 80th annual Academy Awards:
I wondered who that was sitting next to Viggo Mortensen (who looked a thousand years old with that beard). I thought maybe his daughter, but it was actually his niece Sydney. Aww, how sweet!
Each year the Academy does an montage of all those who worked in the movie business who have passed away. This year, they ended with the biggy – Heath Ledger – but wait, they left someone out. That is right, Brad Renfro was missing! He and Heath Ledger were about the same age, appeared in about the same number of movies, so what gives? A spokeswoman for the Academy said that Brad was left off due to a time limitation. She said “Unfortunately, there isn’t enough room to include everyone, especially because we need to accommodate all branches of the Academy.” Ouch, that is harsh – not even a few seconds to spare for Brad? Couldn’t they have left off the tribute to binoculars?
I didn’t notice the other night, but I read today that Whoopi Goldberg was dissed by the Academy! They shows a clip of hosts over the years – they even went back to Bob Hope! – but there was no Whoopi, who has hosted four times. She even won an Oscar! Also missing was Steve Martin, my personal favorite. Of the snub, Whoopi told her fellow View co-hosts “Undoubtedly, I pissed somebody off yet again.”
If you’ve been searching for Oscar news, you may notice the headline “Calista and Harrison Taken Away by Police!” Well, it is not quite as scandalous as all that. The couple had car trouble after the ceremony and called for other car, which never showed up. That is when the officers of the West Hollywood Sheriff’s Station offered them a ride – in a squad car.
