More Post-Christmas Travel Destinations for Families

How do you plan to keep your kids busy during their Christmas vacation? Some of us are relying on the new toys from Santa to keep our tikes occupied, but what you might not know is that there are a slew of family-friendly resorts across the nation offering incredible deals right now.

Think about the wonderful family memories you could make by spending a holiday weekend at one of the following resorts, and the best part… all that family fun won’t leave you penniless in the New Year.

COLORADO

Copper Mountain, Colorado ranks as one of the nation’s most kid-friendly ski resort. During the winter season it hosts a fabulous “En Fuego” celebration, which features evening bonfires, street entertainers, fire performers, a brilliant fireworks display and a parade of torch-carrying skiers who wind their way down the mountain. Holiday packages including accommodations and lift tickets. Prices start at $160 per person per night.

In Steamboat Springs, Colorado the Vista Verde kid-friendly dude ranch offers old-fashioned Rocky Mountain fun for the entire family. Winter activities include one-horse-open-sleigh rides, horseback riding, dog sledding, cross-country skiing, sledding, and snowman-making contests. If you spend New Year’s Eve at the ranch you will be treated to a spectacular fireworks display and an all-you-can-eat feast. Prices start at $360 per night.

CALIFORNIA

If you have ever dreamed of visiting Yosemite National Park minus the huge summer crowds now’s your chance. The park’s historic hotel, the Evergreen Lodge offers a timeless Yosemite experience, without roughing it. Your family will be pampered in a comfortable cabin, enjoy delicious food, and partake in many holiday festivities. Family friendly activities include campfires and s’more making, arts and crafts workshops, a sunset hayride, bingo and movie nights, and the Evergreen tradition of making your own flamingo to take home with you. Two-night family packages, including lodging, all meals, and your choice of guided start at $425.

GEORGIA

Callaway Gardens in Pine Mountain, Georgia is renown for its annual holiday light display. Each December the 13,000-acre resort illuminates the night with its “Fantasy in Lights” extravaganza. The display includes seven miles of high wattage fun. In addition, the resort boasts numerous nature trails to explore and a myriad of other recreational activities. You can visit the local holiday village for some shopping, and pop into the Fantasy Food Court for freshly baked items. Rates at the Mountain Creek Inn start at $157 per night through the end of December.
