More Save Money When You Iron

In a previous article, Save Money When You Iron, I shared my biggest idea for cost savings while tackling you mountain of ironing. I also confessed how I secretly enjoy ironing sometimes. But shhhh, don’t tell anyone.

Now to continue in the article series, I’ll share even more ideas on how the way you iron, and how prepared you are, can actually save you money. It is amazing how all of the things you do around your home and in your life can actually add up and help you afford the things you really need and want. Ironing the frugal is just another task that can add to your savings.

One of the things I forgot to mention in the last article about ironing is that you are already saving a bunch by laundering and pressing your own clothes and linens, as opposed to sending them to the dry cleaners. So the next time you are faced with that pile of ironing, be encouraged by the idea that you are essentially “earning” money while you iron.

Now, on to the next tips.

As we know, irons use a lot of electricity because they generate heat. The more heat they use, the more electricity money they cost. So reducing the amount of heat needed to iron is a smart strategy. Lower the setting on your iron, and you will save money.

One of the great ways to reduce the amount of heat needed by the iron and yet still get those wrinkles out is to reflect the heat back up through the clothes. You can do this two ways. One is by purchasing a reflective ironing board cover, and the other is to wrap the surface of your ironing board with aluminum foil, shiny side out.

Often you need those higher settings to produce steam from the iron, but here is a little trick that will eliminate that need. Get a small spray bottle and fill it with water. Just spray your clothes with the water as you iron. It works just as well at getting the wrinkles out and reduced your energy usage.
