In a previous article I began discussing the meaning of love. I described how one article that I read suggested that there are different forms of love. Not everyone has the same feeling when they use the word love. It seems that while most all people use the phrase “I love you” they may have very different ideas about what the phrase means.
The first two styles of love that were discussed were eros and ludus. Eros is what most would consider the honeymoon stage of love when couples are passionate and romantic. Ludus is the style of love in which one thrives on the vulnerability of the other. A person who loves in the ludus style may enjoy toying with or taking control of the other person’s emotions.
The next style is labeled as storage. Storage is actually exactly what it sounds like. The attraction and love for another is stored over a period of time until it grows strong enough to come out in the open. This style of love comes on very gradually. The feelings are minimal and weak in the beginning. Over a period of time they grow and flourish. This type of love is most commonly seen when two people begin as friends and later fall in love with one another. The love is only developed after the two people spend time together and get to know each other. This type of love throws out all possibility of love at first sight.
The next style discussed is agape. In this type of love a person gains feelings from taking care of others. This is a very selfless love. This person is a nurturer and gains satisfaction from acts of kindness and compassion toward others. To these people love is the need to take care of others.
