More Summertime Savings

One of the great things about summer is that Fall is the time when many new products are introduced. That means that retailers want to clear space for the new stuff, and lower the prices on those big ticket items you’ve been wanting but could not afford.

Computer sales have fallen in the past quarter, due to the economic problems of many consumers. Let’s watch out for great sales – just be sure when buying a computer that you are buying what you need, instead of settling for less. New computers are due to hit the market soon, and the target date for Windows 7 to hit the market is January 2010. This means that if you want to buy a computer and don’t want to wait for the new operating system, you’ll find they are coming on sale.

Automobiles are another major purchase which you may be able to save on now. Dealers want to move those cars off the lot, and sales are slow. The new “cash for clunkers” rebate will help – but they want to make room for 2010 cars. So you could buy a 2009 model now and save.

After July 4, you will find many retailers starting to display merchandise for fall. This is particularly true of clothing. You’ll find discounts on summer clothing and beachwear the closer we get to Labor day.

It really pays to shop the web for bargains if you don’t need to physically try it on or test drive it! Online coupon codes are becoming a vital source of savings, and a way of life for many consumers. With electronics, you may be able to combine these with manufacturer rebates as well. Take a look at Freecoupons.com for some of these unexpected and spectacular deals.

When there isn’t a special online coupon for your purchase, see if you can get points for your purchase from online rewards programs and/or your credit card. Using a site such as Ebates that rewards you with cash, or MyPoints that rewards you with points you can apply toward a gift card, and then using a credit card that gives you cash back or another reward can increase your savings opportunities.

Plan to save. Over time, the savings add up, and the rewards from using rebate and reward programs become a part of your system.
