For kids, who started the new school year on Tuesday, today is reason to celebrate. Surviving nearly an entire week in class calls for some sweet treats. Chocolate, ice cream, marshmallows and pudding will surely bring a smile to your student’s face (that, and two days off until another school week begins).
The following simple sweet recipes will help kick start your child’s weekend of fun:
SMORES SHAKE
Ingredients:
6 scoops vanilla ice cream
1/2 cup cold milk
1/4 cup chocolate syrup
1 graham cracker
1/4 cup mini marshmallows
1/2 chocolate bar, broken in pieces
Whipped cream
Directions:
In a blender, mix ice cream, milk, and chocolate syrup until smooth.
Add half a crumbled graham cracker, half the marshmallows and half of the chocolate pieces. Blend for a few seconds.
Pour into two glasses.
Garnish each glass with whipped cream, extra graham cracker pieces, marshmallows and chocolate pieces.
OREO TORTE
Ingredients:
1 (20-ounce) package Oreo cookies
1 stick butter, melted
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
16 ounces Cool Whip, divided
1/4 cup powdered sugar
2 1/4 cups cold milk, divided
1 cup heavy cream
1 small box instant chocolate pudding
1 small box instant vanilla pudding
Directions:
Finely crush all but five Oreo cookies.
Mix crushed cookies with butter and press into bottom of 9-by 13-inch pan.
In a large bowl, beat both puddings with 2 cups milk. Add heavy cream and beat until pudding starts to thicken.
In another bowl, beat together softened cream cheese, 1/4 cup milk and powdered sugar until smooth. Fold in half of the container of Cool Whip.
Spread the cream cheese mixture on top of cookie crust.
Spoon pudding mixture on top of cream cheese layer, and then carefully spread remaining Cool Whip on top of the pudding.
Crumble the remaining five Oreo cookies on top of the Cool Whip.
Cover and refrigerate for at least two hours before serving.
