Picnics, trips to the beach and swimming dates at the pool are all scrap worthy moments that help memorialize the summer of 2010. But, what about major summer adventures, such as a cross-country road trip or your first European holiday. If you shoot as many photos as I do, the bigger adventures warrant an entire scrapbook rather than just a few pages in a year-end book.
My neighbor just returned from a couples cruise to the Panama Canal. It was a vacation she will remember forever. To help her keep the memories of her trip alive I am helping her create an entire scrapbook filled with cruise highlights.
She took a ton of pictures and collected bags of memorabilia from the trip so there is no shortage of elements to add to her layouts. The trick is organizing the materials to make a cohesive scrapbook. In addition, because her theme is fun, we needed to get a bunch of whimsical embellishments. So far we have:
*A variety of nautical-themed stickers, die-cuts and paper
*A paper cruise ship
*Ocean-themed stickers and stamps, including sea creatures, divers and swimmers
*Shells
*Beach-related die-cuts and stickers, including palm trees, lounge chairs and umbrella drinks
*Sailor stickers
All of these products are available at scrapbook supply stores or in the art supply sections of local discount stores. I like Jolee’s stickers, but you can purchase any brand. You will be amazed at how many cruise theme decorations are available even at Wal-Mart.
If you don’t want to spend a ton on embellishments, then consider purchasing elaborately decorated scrapbook paper. Allow the paper to enhance your photos and memorabilia. However, it shouldn’t overwhelm the page. Also, don’t go overboard on the fancy paper if you plan to cover the entire page with die-cuts, stickers, photos and large memorabilia. Rather, save the elegant paper for layouts that have minimum coverage. Finally, don’t forget to use plastic page protectors on each finished page to preserve your hard work.
