American’s waste money everyday. In fact, the kitchen is one of those places where it’s easy to waste money. The cost of food has risen dramatically over the years, and wasting it in anyway, wastes money. Yesterday I showed you two ways that American’s waste money in the kitchen. Today, I will give you a few more ways.
Appliance Shopping
Sometimes, you have to spend a little money to save a little money. But sometimes you waste that money when you think you are about to start saving some. Appliance shopping is tricky, and needs to be considered carefully before any extravagant purchases are made. The kitchen is a place where a few extra items for inexpensive food preparation is necessary. However it is easy to go overboard. For instance you probably don’t need a specialty espresso maker unless you plan to use it every single day. Or a specialty smoothie maker, or a bread machine, or a pasta maker or …well, I’m sure you get get the point. These can all be massive budget breakers and you will lose money if you don’t use it often. If you are wanting to purchase a new appliance of some type, watch for sales on appliances you plan to use. At least save money while purchasing the item. A freezer is an absolute must for any family who wishes to save money. It makes freezer cooking, meats on sale and other items, easier to store and allows you to save money in many different ways. Beyond a freezer, a regular blender and a mixer are important. Some families find the need for a food processor for easy chopping, dicing, etc. But you don’t need an expensive department store brand. You can purchase a more inexpensive model at your local discount chain that will work well too. In addition, items like a microwave, crock pot, and bread machine can be extremely useful additions to your cooking appliances, when you are trying to not waste money. Do not forget to look at flea markets, garage sales and consignment stores for used appliances that might be just what you are looking for.
Several other ways people waste money in the kitchen:
- Cooking items separately in the oven, instead of cooking them together.
- Throwing leftovers out, instead of using them in a new meal.
- Food spoiling or going bad before its eaten, instead of freezing it to make it last longer.
