More Ways to Eat Out and Still Stay Fit

In my previous blog I revealed some of the nation’s top-rated healthy eateries. These popular restaurants claim that you can dine at their establishments and still lose weight provided you stick with their portion sizes and get in about 30 minutes of cardio exercise per day.

I was happy to see that a few of the places featured in my last blog are ones I frequent on a regular basis. Here now are the rest of Health Magazine’s picks for “Fittest Chain Restaurants in America”:

Corner Bakery. This popular eatery scored exceptionally well for offering a delicious and healthy breakfast menu, rarely seen at chain restaurants. It also got raves for serving up healthy salads, sandwiches, and soups made with whole grains, fresh, lean meats, and vegetables, as well as great portion-controlled combinations that make limiting calories easy.

Chipotle. I love this place. Its buffet-style set-up gives customers complete control over orders. You can choose from burritos, tacos, or salads, and you get to build them with fresh, local ingredients. Chipotle also scored high marks for its commitment to organics, hormone- and antibiotic-free meats, and produce sourced from local suppliers, which is revolutionary in a chain this big.

Atlanta Bread. This bakery/cafe features whole-grain bread, fresh sandwiches, healthy soups and salads. It earned high marks for great sides, too, including fire-roasted black bean and corn salad. The Salsa Fresca Salmon Salad is also outstanding (and healthy).

Taco Del Mar. If you want healthy Mexican food, this is the place to go. The chain gets high marks for its new 320-calorie chicken burrito, served on a whole-wheat tortilla (available at most locations). In addition, it should be noted that Taco Del Mar banned lard from its beans, and bakes its fish and taco shells instead of frying them. Next time you’re there try the 500-calorie Mondito-size burrito, which fills you up, but is not loaded with fat and sodium.
