More Ways to Save on Bridal Gowns

In the search for the perfect bridal gown, you may get discouraged after looking at some of the incredibly steep price tags. Don’t let high prices get you down, because there are some terrific ways to save money without sacrificing the beauty of your gown.

Visit Consignment Shops

Consignment shops are not the same as thrift stores or your average second hand store. Quality consignment shops only sell gently used items that are in excellent condition, are reasonably within current style guidelines, and are made from fabrics befitting the current season. They prefer recognized designers and name brands. You might be surprised to find that most consignment shops have a few wedding gowns in their inventory. In fact, you may even find a brand new gown sold to the shop by a bride who changed her mind before the wedding. While even consignment shop gowns are not “cheap,” they tend to cost far less than those found in bridal shops do. Even after having the gown professionally cleaned (if necessary) and altered to fit you, you should end up saving a substantial amount of money.

Have Your Gown Custom Made

Consider consulting with a local seamstress. It is often far less expensive to have a bridal gown made than it is to purchase one off the rack. The additional benefit is getting exactly what you want as well as getting a dress that fits perfectly in every way, because it was custom made for you. Ask friends and family, because someone you know may have the perfect person in mind to make your gown. If not, check the yellow pages and visit with a few different tailors to compare prices and styles. It is best to consult with a dressmaker before you begin shopping for fabric, but when the time comes, seek discount fabric outlets. The seamstress you choose may know just the place.
