More Ways to Save on Your Maternity Wardrobe

I’ve talked a lot about saving money on maternity clothes on this blog. There is no reason to blow all sorts of cash (or credit) on clothes you can only wear once. If you are lucky enough to be pregnant during the same season twice, you’ll be able to get a second use, but it’s more likely that by the time you are able to wear them again, some of them will be out of style.

One way to prevent this is to purchase maternity clothes that are both timeless and “season-less.” Skip the bulky sweaters and mini shorts, and opt for open sweaters you can wear when you’re not pregnant, as well as light pants or jeans that you can wear in the cooler months. Look for maternity clothes that will never go out of style, like the not-so-little black dress or a crisp white shirt.

Another method to save money on maternity clothes, which I’ve mentioned before, is to not spend any at all by having a maternity clothes swap. If you have a few friends who are the same size and in the same (baby-making) season of life, put all your maternity threads together and pass them around as needed. In the event that you share a due date, you’ll just have to split the stock.

If sharing clothes with friends is not an option, there are other ways to get maternity clothes on the cheap. I am a member of Freecycle and I often see posts for free maternity clothes. Another great place to look is Craigslist. You can acquire an entire wardrobe this way, sometimes without paying a dime. I would also recommend checking out your local consignment shop, Goodwill or Salvation Army. Maternity clothes, by default, are lightly used and often in good condition, even when found in a thrift shop. Buy your basics for less and you can afford to splurge on a new trendy item to accent you maternity wardrobe.
