More “Whoever Heard of” Expressions

Even though my mom is gone, an expression we’d say still lives on. I find myself coming up with some pretty funny “whoever heard of” lines. Ones I know would make my mom smile, if not chuckle. Perhaps they’ll tickle you as well.

Whoever Heard Of…

A cat drinking coffee? (Inspired by Mr. Meow dipping his nose into my empty coffee mug to check out what I’d been drinking. And don’t worry. I’d never let him really drink coffee. I know it’s dangerous for him.)

A cat eating Cheerios? (My mom loved her Cheerios for breakfast. Sadly, no one in our house eats them. The other day I decided it was time to part with her half-eaten Cheerios box. I removed the liner from the box –so I could recycle the cardboard– and some Cheerios spilled out as I placed the liner in the trash. Tabby and Mr. Meow were both there to give them a taste. Though they’ll try to tell you they were “helping” me clean up the mess.)

A cat eating dog food? (A cat named Tabby, that is. I have a feeling my mom probably heard me say this one a time or two when she was here with us, because every morning Tab’s forever racing Murph down the stairs to dig into his bowl, too.)

A dog taking out the trash? (Murph’s always such a good helper, even with the stinky chores!)

A dog checking the mail? (Never know when a dog’s going to get some bones!)

A cat sleeping on a dog’s bed? (Bought it for Murphy, but Mr. Meow’s claimed it. Which is fine, because Murph wanted nothing to do with it.)

A cat playing with a tennis ball? (Mr. Meow’s newest favorite trick is to tackle a tennis ball I roll across the floor, grab on and kick, kick, kick it with all his might.)

Rabbits eating bird food? (I’ve seen squirrels foraging from neighborhood bird feeders, but the rabbits across the street congregate beneath one and nibble away. Probably on the grass that’s growing from the seeds the squirrels have spilled, but the way they’re grazing almost looks like they’re eating the bird food.)

Cute poops? (When my cousin and her dogs visited, the dogs had to do their dooty. Somehow we got to talking about how small their poop is and how it’s actually cute.)

A dog afraid of a cat? (There’s this one cat down the street who’s a member of Murphy’s fan club. He sees Murph and comes running –right towards Murph. He’s always wanting to love up against him. Murph sees him and goes running –in the opposite direction. He doesn’t want anything to do with that cat. I guess he’s afraid he’s got two at home as it is and this one might find a way to become number three.)
