Moms love pictures of their kids, so give Mom one (or more than one) that she can look at all the time. She’ll love them even more when they are in special frames that you made just for her!
Items Needed:
- Craft sticks (tongue depressor size is best but ice cream stick size will work)
- Glue
- Cardboard
- Scissors
- Stapler
- Construction paper
- Round magnets or magnetic strips
- Paint
- Decorations (bows, flowers, beads, glitter, etc.)
- Photo
*You might want to make copies of photos and use the copies for this project. This is a good idea if Mom has a favorite picture that you would like to use but you don’t want to damage the original.
1. Lay the craft sticks out in the shape of a frame on top of the cardboard. Trace the frame.
2. Cut the cardboard out, cutting inside the lines.
3. Center the picture on the cardboard and attach it with tape or staples in each corner.
4. Cut a hole in the construction paper, large enough for the picture to show.
5. Attach the fabric over the picture. This will be your matting.
6. Glue the craft sticks to the edge, forming a frame around the picture and matting. If using the ice cream stick size, use two for each edge.
7. When the glue is dry, paint the craft sticks.
8. Next, add any decorations you desire.
9. When glue for decorations is dry, flip the frame over and attach the magnets. If using round magnets, attach one to each corner. If using strips, add one across the top and the bottom or each side (or you can place them on all sides if you like).
Variations:
If you like, you can substitute pretty fabric for the construction paper.
You can also add lace or trim to the outside edge of the craft sticks to make the picture frame extra special.
*Remember that this and other Mother’s Day projects will make great gifts on other occasions as well.
