Mother’s Day Gift Ideas for Dads on a Budget

Dear Dads, don’t let an empty wallet cast a dark shadow over Mother’s Day. There are plenty of inexpensive ways you can help your child craft a memorable gift for mom on her special day. What’s more, making the personal projects will allow you time to bond with your child and give mom a break in the process.

TISSUE PAPER FLOWERS

Materials:

Bare branch from your yard or the park

Tissue paper in green and pink

Pencil with an eraser

Glue

Directions:

Cut green tissue paper into triangles (use 1- to 2-inch squares cut in half on the diagonal).

Use glue stick to attach green tissue paper triangles to 1- to 2-inch squares of pink tissue paper.

Shape pink tissue paper into flower buds by wrapping them over a pencil eraser.

Slide the blossom off the pencil and twist the end into a small point.

Use glue to attach the twisted end of the bud to a clean and dry branch.

HOMEMADE SCRAPBOOK

Materials:

Empty cereal box

Wrapping paper

Brown paper bags

Yarn

Hole punch

Scissors

Directions:

Cut off one side and the bottom of the cereal box, but keep the front and back in one piece.

Cover the box with wrapping paper.

To make pages for scrapbook, cut out pieces of the brown bag, making sure they are the same size.

Punch two holes in the front and back cover.

Punch holes in the pages to match the cover.

Place the pages in between the cover and string the holes with the yarn and tie into a bow.

Have kids draw pictures or write notes on the pages or add existing photographs before giving to mom.
