I admit that most of the social interaction I get being a work-at-home mom is with other moms whose kids my daughter plays with. So you’ll forgive me if I over-generalize and say that most of the family photographers I know are women. Frankly, I don’t feel as though this is a starling fact. I am the designated photographer in my family and while all of the professional photographers at my TV job are male many willingly admit that when it comes to still photography their wives are the ones that wield the camera in their households.
So as Mother’s Day fast approaches I thought it would be a good idea to throw out some gift ideas for your favorite (female) photographer. None of the products are particularly girly; however they are extremely practical and what mom doesn’t appreciate a useful gift?
Hint, hint.
JOBY GORILLAPOD
I don’t know who invented this innovative photo accessory, but I will certainly attest that it does come in handy. The weird looking contraption has its roots in a tripod, but can secure itself (and your camera) to just about anything. Unlike traditional tripods, the JOBY GORILLAPOD does not require you to place it on a flat surface before shooting. The device twists, turns, bends and configures itself in a variety of shapes to fit on poles, branches, and guardrails enabling you to take the perfect shot regardless of your surroundings. It retails for about $22.
FASHIONABLE NECK STRAPS
If your favorite female photographer loves her bling then you might consider gifting her with a fashion jewelry camera neck strap or bracelet. Gone are the days where you are limited to carrying your camera with a traditional bland strap. These days practically every photo shop carries fashion-friendly camera straps adorned with beads and jewels. Imagine having a camera hanging from a gold or silver chain bedazzled with colorful and sparkly jewels—-now that’s style.
CAMERA KITS
I happen to think camera kits make ideal gifts. These days many kits come with stylish camera bags and include extremely practical photo accessories. For example, instead of purchasing a standard camera kit that typically includes a bag, batteries, memory card case and mini-tripod why not go the extra mile and purchase one made for the international traveler. Kodak sells an International Travel Kit, which includes 6 power plugs for international or domestic travel—-US, Australia, UK, Europe, Korea, and China (110–240 volt) and a plug pouch for less than $75.
