I just saw a car commercial that suggested dads should come into purchase new wheels for Father’s Day. For crying out loud, we haven’t even celebrated Mother’s Day yet and Madison Avenue wants us to start thinking about buying gifts for dads.
My calendar still says April. I still have to finish the scrapbook I am making for my mom for Mother’s Day. I certainly don’t need a car company breathing down my neck about Father’s Day.
So, yeah, time is ticking on my half-done Mother’s Day memory book. I’m sure I will be able to finish in time if I stick to the basics instead of trying to impress with fancy scrapbooking techniques. In fact, if you are still looking for a gift idea to present your mom on her special day, you too could create a memorable scrapbook. The trick to completing it on time is sticking to the basics:
Photos: You can’t have a scrapbook without pictures. They are the centerpiece of the project and should capture the essence of your theme. While there are a seemingly endless array of different paper and embellishments to adorn your layouts, the photos are the real gems. Make sure your images are crisp, clear and relevant. All distracting elements in a photo should be cropped, so that the focus is on the primary subject.
Memorabilia: Mother’s Day scrapbooks should include a few special mementos. Think letters to mom from her kids and grandkids or her husband for being such a wonderful parent to her brood. Other items to include in a Mother’s Day scrapbook include pressed flowers, tickets to her favorite show or postcards from a cherished vacation destination. If you plan to place these types of items in your mom’s scrapbook, I would highly suggest that you use a preservative such as Archival Mist to protect the pages from yellowing. Another idea is to skip the spray and instead, make pocket type pages to slip the items in. This method allows readers of the book to take out the memorabilia, examine it, and then place it back without compromising the integrity of the scrapbook.
