Motivation from Inside

I have recently written about how social media can be used for weight loss support and accountability. Social media gets a bad rap for making letters and postcards a thing of the past while making past lovers a thing of the present. Many say that people are beginning to lack communication skills due to social media. Any outlet that brings people together will have a light and dark side. Sure the are questionable things in the realm of social media. However, there is good in it as well. It is a way to keep in contact with those with distance between us for one reason or another. It can make friends and family feel closer and stay more involved if they live far away. It can also bring people together for healthy pursuits like weight loss.

I was recently asked to join a weight loss support and accountability group on Facebook. I do not know know any of the people offline. I only know a few from working with them online. However, it is a nice group and truly helps keep you accountable. Everyday you can check in for updates, advice, and words of encouragement. You can also be an encourager to others. It is funny how being an encourager can help you in your own path to weight loss. It is a wonderful tool that can provide the support you need.

However, I want to stress that unless you really want to lose weight in your heart nothing will work. Your mind had to be fixed on the goal. Losing weight is hard work that can be made a bit easier with the help of friends. But let’s be real, you can ignore the group or leave the group. You can simply not participate. It is not your magic solution. Some thing they will join a group and the motivation will follow. Not true! You must have the motivation first and use the groups for the continual reminder of the motivation in you. Trust me, if you are not finding success it could be due to looking for outside sources instead of inside your heart.
