Movie Bloopers 4: Napoleon Dynamite

I don’t need any excuse to watch Napoleon Dynamite again. I’ve seen it probably ten times and I’ll never get tired of it. The first time I saw it, I wasn’t sure if I should be laughing. It was brand-new in theaters, and hadn’t had much press yet, so I wasn’t sure what I was in for. It was a little painful to watch this poor, clueless, ultimate-geek Napoleon kid, but then I figured out it was OK to laugh and love him at the same time. Now, the movie is funnier every time I see it, and it is on my short-list of all-time favorite movies.

But you watch a movie enough times and you start to notice a few things….Napoleon Dynamite is full of little continuity bloopers, so if you need an excuse to watch it again, watch for mistakes such as in the scene where Napoleon asks Pedro if he’s going to eat his Tater Tots–the little buggers keep changing position on Pedros plate.

Or there’s the infamous dance for Pedro’s campaign where Napoleon’s shirt is tucked, untucked and then magically tucked in again.

But the real fun of Napoleon Dynamite bloopers is spotting the crew and equipment. To me, those are the best bloopers to find because it’s a little peek behind the scenes. Watch for these crew and equipment bloopers:

As the school bus goes by when Napoleon hears the farmer shoot the cow, you can see a reflection of a camera and crew members in the bus’s glass door.

Sometimes the floor is marked with tape where an actor is supposed to stand. Look for white tape on the floor after Rex, the martial arts instructor, slaps Kip in the face.

When Deb is trying to sell Napoleon her lanyard key chains on his front porch, Napoleon says, “I made about an infinity of those at scout camp,” and then looks off to the side. Look at the reflection in Napoleon’s glasses. You can see a reflector screen and crew members on the lawn.

Look at Trisha’s front door in the scene when Napoleon is walking up to her front porch. You can see a camera and crew member reflected in the door.
